Photo: Selection of Lower Makefield Ranchers Sold By Keller Williams†
Driving through the neighborhoods of detached, single family neighborhoods of Lower Makefield it becomes clear that the 4 bedroom, 2-story colonial outnumbers other home styles. Ranchers are, nonetheless, present in large numbers (almost 900) and account for roughly 10% of all detached singles; their vintage and size is of sufficient variety to attract a range of buyers who seek the 1-story living experience. At least one rancher can be found on one in four streets throughout the town — from Afton Avenue to Yardley Road.
The majority of Lower Makefield Ranchers were built from the 1940s through the 1980s. However, examples from both later and earlier can be found. Two ranchers dating to ca. 1890 are located along River Road.
The median age of the Lower Makefield Rancher is ca. 1956. Lot sizes range from less than 1/5th of an acre to more than 3 acres with a median measuring approximately 2/5ths of an acre. Interior living space varies greatly as well, ranging from less than 1,000 to more than 5,000 sq. ft. (median, 1,775 sq. ft.)
